This expressive dance explores and harmonizes African dance, jazz dance, modern dance, and classical ballet with the help of a contemporary, often unusual music. Because of how athletic and fast it is, this dance requires the student to be in great physical condition. And since this class couples contemporary dance with classical ballet, students that wish to sign up for it need to have a good understanding of the Vaganova Method.
The technique taught in the Contemporary Cance class was invented by Christiane Bélanger. It is called "The Freedom of Movement". It encourages students to explore their body and how it moves in order to reach an elevated understanding of movements, where freedom finally meets with technique.
